The Summer Succubus: Sex Can Be Green, Too.
Summer is now in full swing in the ‘States, and that means it’s open season for flirtation and coital rendezvous. Whether you’re with a partner, a couple of partners, or flying solo in all this, do yourself a favour and address your lust (or love) with ethical and sustainable products listed after the jump–you’ll be glad you did.
Not too long ago, people were disappointed that there weren’t very many choices for the most popular form of contraception. However, times have changed, and luckily there are plenty of brands featuring natural rubber, vegan options and more. Click the images to learn a bit more about each from here on out.
Where are the lambskin condoms? Good question, (and if you weren’t thinking it, just act like you were.) Although lambskin condoms are a wonderful alternative to latex, they don’t prevent the transmission of STDs and HIV. It’s best you stick with a natural rubber condom if you aren’t sure about your partner(s). If you have a latex allergy, your best next bet would be silicon condoms, as they have a chance to biodegrade over time. Whatever you do, just steer clear from condoms made from polyurethane and polyisoprene, as these types are not biodegradable at all.
You can’t just grab the condoms without the lubricant…well, you can, but it would be wise to pick it up anyway. Just be sure to remember to check for lubricant/condom compatibility. For instance, oil-based lubricants should NEVER be paired with latex condoms like the ones listed earlier, as it can weaken or even deteriorate your rubber, making it more likely to fail. Instead, a water-based lubricant would be used. Always check the packaging to prevent bedroom mishaps.
Digressing, these next lubricants all feature organic materials and try to provide the most natural experience with the most natural ingredients. Take a peek!
On To Toys
So much talk about the rabbit–don’t you know there are other choices out there? If you didn’t, you’re gonna preview some cool products here today. When choosing a vibrator, try to pick a rechargeable model to eliminate the need for batteries. If it can’t be avoided, pick up some rechargeable batteries to go with your vibe. In addition, putting the search for silicone-based vibrators last and veering towards other finishes makes better for the environment as well. Look into glass, stainless steel and sustainably-harvested wood toys as well before going with the conventional types. Here’s a few popular brands and models that have received good reviews.
It’s good to note as well some other stores that provide green services. In France, L’arbre des plaisirs will plant a tree with every sex toy purchase, and if you recycle your toys with them, you can get a 10% off coupon towards their site. Back in the States in Oregon, the Scarlet Girl will give you store credit if you recycle your old toys. Lastly, Sex Toy Recycling actually strips down your old toys and turns them into new ones! Just swing them an e-mail to start the process. So if you somehow, you know, break your baby, you can rest assured it won’t be stuck in a landfill for all eternity.
I was able to round up a couple of places that carry specialized products for the more sexually adventurous. One place in particular is a site called In Her Tube, and the owner, Kat, founded the store in response to a lack of high-quality gear for individuals with varied body types. All of the products are made from recycled inner tubes from heavy equipment such as tractor tires and the sort, so they’re more durable. The only precaution with their products is that if you do have a latex allergy, you should steer clear of these products. Otherwise, these toys are vegan-friendly. More popular products include their harnesses and harness equipment, floggers, gags, restraints and a particular toy made from a chain. My personal favourite’s this little corset for men–it’s so precious. Take a look:

Oh, and seriously, just…invest in that cute little corset. Just put it on a dildo if need be, it’s far too adorable to ignore.
